Granite
Granite is a natural stone not mixed with any type of resin or chemicals. Granite comes in a variety of colors and often has veining or movement. Granite is a very durable material and is resistant to scratches, heat and stains, however is porous and does require sealing. Avoid acids such as vinegar, wine, chemicals, oils and clean with warm soapy water.
Marble
Marble is also a natural stone with beautiful veining such as with popular Carrara and Calacutta. Marble is more porous than granite and should have a quality sealer to prevent staining. Because the minerals that compose marble are sensitive to certain chemical agents, it is important to wipe spills away quickly.
Quartz
Gaining popularity, quartz is a tough non-porous man-made material made of approximately 95% ground quartz to 5% resin and pigments. Quartz offers a great deal of variety in colors and patterns. Quartz is extremely low-maintenance and one of the hardest substances. It typically doesn't need to be sealed but is often higher in price.
